This is where the journey begins. Pixie finds herself alone on the brick streets of Itchan Kala — the old town behind mud-brick walls, where the turquoise Kalta Minor minaret rises above the roofs. The run weaves between stalls, clay jugs and traders' carts, and the level ends with the “Dust Storm” finale. Khiva is the first level of the Uzbekistan chapter; you learn to run across three lanes, jump and slide even earlier, in the prologue in Vienna.

Beyond Khiva's walls lie endless cotton fields, trucks loaded with white bales and irrigation ditches full of water. The level has three districts — the gin, the fields and the road to Nukus: the road forks into high and low routes, canals have to be jumped, and the finale is the sluices, where water floods the lanes and drains away again. The Cotton Fields are in the first version, right after Khiva.

Moynaq and the Aral Sea

A town that once had a harbour and now sits tens of kilometres from the water. Rusting ships on the sand make it one of the most moving places on Pixie's way: here you feel how far she is from home. The Moynaq level is in the works and will arrive as an update.

The Ustyurt plateau and Mangystau: white chalk cliffs, canyons and steppe to the horizon. Pixie's road heads for the Caspian Sea and then west to the Caucasus. The Kazakhstan chapter is next on the route after Uzbekistan.

One of Russia's oldest cities: the Naryn-Kala fortress on the hillside and walls running down to the Caspian. Russia and the Caucasus are a big part of Pixie's journey; the map also shows Astrakhan with its white kremlin and lotuses in the Volga delta. The Russia chapter is in preparation.

Carved balconies in the old town, sulphur baths and a fortress above the Kura river. After the Caucasus mountains Pixie comes down to Tbilisi, and from there the road leads to the Black Sea. The chapter is in the works.

A city on both shores of the Bosphorus — the last big border on the way home. Minarets, ferries, gulls and street cats staring at a small dog in surprise. From here only Europe and the Danube are left.
